The Dawn of Sports
July 30th, 2007
Finally, a breakthrough in the way sports is run in the country! With the announcement of Marina Chin as the Bukit Jalil principle, a non-politician, not royalty either is elected as the head of a sports establishment. Kudos to the powers that be, with the announcement. I hope they’ll be more to come, only then sports would actually flourish in the country. Other people heading sports associations should also take note and cue from the announcement. The people chosen to head sports association should not only be former athletes themselves but they should also have experience in handling administrative matters only then they will be successful in their jobs. The BBJS school students will benefit from their new principle who will know their training regimes and programmes.
I once heard in TV3 news about how badminton players are getting big purses for their efforts. In the bulletin, they mentioned how the players just have to train 4 hours a day as compared to a normal working adult who will have to work 8 hours a day. What the reporter did not understand is the sacrifices that the athletes had to go through, the diet, the sacrifices they had to make since they were teenagers, other people went to the prom while they were on the court practicing!
From the coaches that I have interviewed, I found out that the exceptionally good players always gave extra work for themselves to do, to make them outstanding. That little extra, no matter how little, make them extra special a little better than others. What is the difference between 1st and 2nd place? 0.001 seconds. That is the difference.
