Play Ball!

The officially open their season at home today against the . I'm interested to see how much all the off-season changes (and there have been many) pay off, particularly the much-mentioned bringing up of "homegrown" players from within the system. We still have no pitching (a starting rotation of five righthanders?), but it's baseball, so it can't be all bad.
Now if somebody could get something done with Crater , St. Louis might be taken seriously as a city with an actual downtown. 's what it's supposed to look like if it's ever finished (er, started); 's what it looks like now (and has for a year-and-a-half). While the city decides what to do, can somebody at least sod this eyesore so families can picnic before a game?

Baseball season is right around the corner. Although I love football and follow it passionately, my first love is baseball. The sights, sounds, and even smell of the game is so incredible. Even during football season, I find myself glued to baseball websites, television and newspapers, paying attention to the various trades and free agent signings that take place through the MLB.
As we get set for Spring Training '08, as the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues unfold, don't be surprised to find some prognostication on this site. I'll encourage readers to pitch in and offer opinions as well. Ah yes, baseball . . . America's Pasttime . . . still goes well with hot dogs, apple pie, and Cheverolet (even if I drive a Saturn)! Let's get ready to Play Ball!
