It’s the Most Wonerful Time of the Year…

August 31st, 2007

The best time of year is upon us.  That’s right kiddies, the NFL and NHL seasons are beginning, which means Fantasy Pool season.  It’s that annual time of year when the anticipation of all great things to come is the highest.  Screw new years, the real resolution for die hard sports fans starts in the month of September.  The time of the year when all past mistakes are forgotten and new promises are made.  It’s the time of the year that you stroll down to the closest 7-11 and pick up $40 worth of sports magazines with all the goodies enclosed.  You spend an ungodly amount of time pouring over statistics on websites and through papers and magazines.

It really is the best time of year.  So regardless if you’re an Edmonton Oilers fan or a hockey fan (the two are separate entities), this is a busy and exciting time of year.  I have just begun setting up 1 of my 3 hockey pools and I have already drafted for 2 of my 4 football pools.  Though the winter brings us cold weather and encourages scantly clad women to put on more clothes (*shakes fist violently*) it brings a flood of awesomeness in its wake.  After all, the awakening of the football and hockey gods also brings with it the chance to enjoy many recreational activities.  My favorite being snowboarding, but you can’t go wrong with a little pick up hockey.  Throw a little crazy winter driving in there and you have a party to talk about (see last post).

It’s the time of year when you realize that Calgary’s wonderful two week heat wave has ended and the real weather has returned.  So for all you sports junkies, its time to retire your street hockey sticks, put away your lacrosse gear and pack away that wakeboard.  Its time for a brand new season baby, and if your lucky, and you pay enough attention….you may just ketch a glimpse me as I pass your sorry ass on the way to the top of the standings.
