Kitzbuhel, Austria ndash; With all the players of any note taking a break before the French Open next week, the Austrian Open got underway with a rather modest field of players. The highest ranked player that entered the draw, after top seed Nikolay Davydenko withdrew before the tournament started was local favourite Jurgen Melzer.
